Everyone is probably familiar with this picture. Eyes wide open, head tilted and mouth twitched into some semblance of a smile. Many dog owners would give anything to know what their pets are thinking in these moments. Michael and Kelly also wanted to learn what their dog was thinking while staring at them all night long. And what they’ve learned is amazing.
Once a young family of Michael and Kelly decided to adopt a dog from the shelter. After all, dogs living there need love and care much more than others. Most of the dogs from the shelter have had a difficult life, which makes it impossible to predict how they would act at the new home. But Michael and Kelly weren’t scared. Having met all the pets at the shelter, the couple chose an ordinary mutt.
The dog named Jackie was calm and sweet and seemed to have fallen in love with the couple at the first sight. The dog was very well behaved. It was clear that he used to have a home and that his owners trained him well. He even knew a few commands, but there still was something that worried the couple. The dog could go about his business during the day, but as soon as the night came, he’d sit in the same spot near the door watching Michael and Kelly never taking his eyes off them.
Every night, the couple had to fall asleep while being stared at by the dog. The owners suspected that Jackie could be staying up the whole night and it scared them as it was going on for a couple of days. Already, the young family decided to install a hidden camera. The owners were shocked by what the camera had filmed. The dog did stay up the whole night watching his owners till the very morning.
His eyes would occasionally close, but he’d immediately wake up as if he was afraid to fall asleep. Michael and Kelly immediately took their beloved pet to the vet. After a thorough exam, the vet concluded that Jackie was completely healthy. The reason for this unusual behavior might have been hiding in his previous life, so the couple went to the shelter where they rescued Jackie from. It turned out that Jackie used to live with a young couple that was very kind to him.
But when his former owner got pregnant, the couple decided that they won’t be able to take care of the dog after the baby comes. So when Jackie was asleep, they put him in a wooden box and took him to the shelter. He has never seen his owners again. All this time, Jackie was missing his home until Michael and Kelly decided to take him in, but now he was afraid to fall asleep so as not to lose his owners again. After learning Jackie’s fate, the young couple saw him with different eyes and tried to give him even more love and affection.
Michael and Kelly also decided to allow their pet to sleep with them so that he’d feel the warmth of the owners next to him and be able to sleep. A dog life is unimaginable without love
