She Spent Her Whole Life In A Wheelchair, But When Her Mother Was Murdered People Learned The Truth

Living A Lie

Even if we love our parents dearly, we can still find ourselves being disappointed by their behaviour at some point in our lives. Our parents are human and they’re just as likely to make mistakes as we are. But what if our parents did something that was truly horrible? What if they made us live a lie without even knowing? What if they bound us to a wheelchair when we didn’t actually need one? Sounds like a movie? It does but sadly, this is what happened to Gypsy Rose Blancharde and now, the 25-year-old is paying a huge price for allowing her boyfriend to murder her mother.

Murdering Her Mother

murder your mother. Unless it’s a case of mental illness, your mother must do something really bad to you to come to the point where you want to see her dead. In 2015, Gypsy and her boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn were arrested for the murder of Dee Dee Blancharde. The 48-year-old was murdered by Nicholas while her daughter listened from another room.

Sharing The News On Facebook

When Dee Dee died, Gypsy had to share the news with the whole world. And so, the young woman took to Facebook to tell everyone of her Facebook friends what happened. “That bitch is dead,” Gypsy wrote.

Thinking It Was A Joke

Gyspy’s Facebook friends were shocked by her status. “What?!!! Did your FB get hacked? I have never heard you talk like that,” wrote one user. “Sounds like ya’ll are watching a movie,” wrote another, thinking it was all a joke. That was until Nicholas replied back through Gypsy’s account, writing, “I […] slashed that fat pig.

What Had Dee Dee Done?

News of the murder soon spread. Some condemned the act while others understood what had led Gypsy to want to kill her mother. So what had Dee Dee done? What horrible things had she done to her daughter that would lead the latter to hate her so much
?

A Caring Single Parent

Well, to the outside world, Dee Dee was a caring mother. She waa single parent taking care of her very sick daughter. Gypsy was said to suffer from “leukemia, asthma, muscular dystrophy, brain damage, and other chronic conditions.”

Everyone Believed What They Were Told

This is what family members, friends and acquaintances knew of the family of two. What’s worse, Gypsy herself thought that she suffered from all of these very serious conditions. There was only one problem — Gypsy was perfectly healthy. She didn’t suffer from any of these conditions, it was only Dee Dee who led her to believe that she was.

Taking Cancer Medication For Nothing

Over the years, Dee Dee faked her daughter’s health issues and made her go through unnecessary medical procedures that were painful and an inconvenience. At one point, Gypsy even took cancer medication and was given feeding tubes for nothing. Dee Dee even convinced her daughter that she couldn’t walk. As a result, Gypsy spent over ten years of her life in a wheelchair for nothing.

The Real Mental Issue Here

Dee Dee would tell people that her daughter had “the mental capacity of a young child.” The thing is, Dee Dee was the one with the medical issue. The mother “suffered from Munchausen by proxy, which makes a guardian exaggerate or induce illness for attention and sympathy.”

Learning The Truth

As she grew up, Gypsy started to learn the truth. For starters, she developed normally and she knew that she was perfectly healthy. But this woman had no one to turn to. Dee Dee was overprotective of her daughter. She never let her make real friends or keep in touch with family members, including her own father.

A Secret Romance

It was an online romance that gave Gypsy the edge she needed. The latter started a secret online romance with Nicholas. She would tell him about her mother and what she had gone through. It was here that the two came up with a plan

Getting Rid Of The Villain

“It’s like she played out that part of the fairy tale, you know?” Kristy, Gypsy’s stepmom, explained. “She got rid of the evil [villain].” Yes, well, when you put it that way, it does ring true but it doesn’t mean her act didn’t come with serious consequences.

Second Degree Murder

Those serious consequences include 10 years in prison. Gypsy was charged with second degree murder for allowing Nicholas to kill her mother while she listened from another room. The young woman is eligible for parole in the year 2024 when she will be 34 years old.

‘Mommy Dead And Dearest’

This story sounds like it came straight out of a movie but, as I said before, it’s not. Still, it was too good for the people at HBO not to pick up and create a documentary about the mother and daughter. The trailer for Mommy Dead and Dearest is out and well, it looks intriguing.

Watch It Online

You can watch the full documentary here if you want to. But before that, tell us, what do you think of this story? Is Gypsy’s act justified? Wouldn’t it have been better if she had reported her mother instead and enjoyed her life outside of the prison walls? Share your thoughts below
