This is the most heartbreaking thing I have seen go through my news feed in a long time, and given that I follow every single animal charity in the country, well.. that says it all.
In fact, this story even made me write this blogpost – I haven’t written a blogpost in months, but this dog.. I don’t know, I feel like I owe it to him somehow.
Saying “him”, let me clarify that “he” is only six months old. SIX MONTHS. Yep. And in his mind, this is what the world is all about apparently. Misery and pain. Imagine that.
The puppy that the volunteers who rescued him called Nog was found chained in a Roma camp. As the story goes, they used to have him tied by the leg, which resulted in the leg being cut off, and the next solution was to tie him by the neck.
And he survived this was for TWO WEEKS, with the flesh exposed. At six months. He is six months, and the look in his eyes is the one of an old, tired dog, ready to die.
Nog weighs 8 kilos. EIGHT. He has had surgery to properly amputate what was left of his leg, and he is looking for a home. Will he find it? Well, I’m not sure. Does he deserve it? Hell yeah. But he is not the only one deserving a home. There are millions like him. He is not the only one who has been treated so unfairly. He is not the only one out there that picturing him in a home makes you sleep better at night. There are millions like him.
So, chances are that he won’t find his forever home any time soon. But then again, he might. I owe it to him to be one of the people who try. At least I can do that.
