The now one-year-old German shepherd/Border collie mix was returned to the shelter by his initial owners.

When he was just 13 days old, sweet Brodie the German shepherd/Border collie mix was attacked by his own mother, leaving him with a partially blind eye and several facial and cranial deformities. He was born in a rescue shelter where his mother bit his head and left him with a ‘wonky’ face. Despite this unique appearance, many families were ready to adopt him. In fact, the shelter received hundreds of adoption requests for Brodie, reports The New York Post.
He was first adopted by someone who returned him back to the shelter in 5 months, complaining he was too hyper. Thankfully, the rescue dog received a second chance at finding his forever home. Amanda Richter, 30, and her boyfriend Brad Ames, 23 visited Brodie at Old MacDonald Kennels in Alberta, Canada, after seeing his photos online and “ended up bringing [Brodie] home the same day,” Richter said. “We met him, took him for a walk and hung out with him for a few hours and ended up bringing him home the same day because the rescue really felt we were a great fit,” Richter tells SWNS.
The sweet dog has found a family that can handle his canine energy. “He’s definitely hyper,” Richter agrees, “but he is so intelligent. His brain is perfectly fine and he learns tricks within 10 minutes usually which tells me he is a smart boy.” The previous owner was the one there was something wrong with, she says. “[Brodie] just needed patience and someone to be consistent. He gets better every week. He is such a good boy, the couple hopes to one day train him as a therapy dog “so he can help other people with disabilities,” says Richter. For now, the pooch is just enjoying what he knows best; being a dog and having fun. “[When] we go to the dog park everyone notices how he is the happiest pup there and just wants to play and run,” says Richter, “he has no idea he looks different.”
18 weeks ago, the unique pup joined Instagram to share his life with the rest of the world. In his first post, his parents put up the caption: Hello Instagram! I’m Brodie, a 9-month-old shepherd border collie cross. I live with my new mom and dad in Alberta, Canada. A lot of people were asking for updates and a way to follow my journey through life, so here I am! I love long walks, swimming, and playing with other dogs! I may look #differentlyabled but I sure don’t act like it. 🐶 There are even videos of him performing tricks for treats. He really is the good boy. Just a little different, and that’s totally paw-some!
